Civil aviation at Jaisalmer is set to experience increased activity as air services are scheduled to commence on November 1. Supreme Airlines is initiating services between Jaipur and Jaisalmer, anticipating a tourism boost with enhanced air connectivity. The airport, situated on Khuhadi Road, has been ready for three years, incurring an expenditure of Rs 100 crore. Despite the initial lack of airline interest, services are expected to commence for Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Delhi. If facilities for landing and parking planes are provided at Nal airport during the night, regular flights can also be initiated between Jaipur and Bikaner, and Delhi and Jaisalmer. The director of the airport authority, S K Singh, announced that Supreme Airlines would start operations with a nine-seater plane from November 1, departing from Jaipur at 11:30 am, arriving in Jaisalmer at 1:30 pm, and returning from Jaisalmer at 2 pm, reaching Jaipur at 4 pm. The airline is exploring additional services for the Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Delhi sectors. Singh mentioned that Supreme Airlines has requested night parking and take-off facilities in Jaisalmer and Bikaner. The airline has also proposed schedules to connect Bikaner with Delhi and other cities. Despite the new flight schedules, Nal airport has declined permission for flights to land after sunset, citing fog and lighting concerns. The state government, under an MoU with Supreme Airlines, has initiated flights between divisional headquarters, proposing a Jaipur-Bikaner flight starting November 1. Plans for Jaisalmer-Bikaner-Delhi and Delhi-Bikaner-Jaisalmer air services have been proposed. However, Naal airport authorities have cited a lack of landing facilities during the night due to fog and lighting conditions, hindering the progression of the proposal. Despite preparations, including a booking counter at Naal airport, the date of flight services is yet to be announced by the state government.
